A capable AI model does more than write a reply. It can now work through a task across software, webpages, files, and changing instructions.

GPT-6 Astra is OpenAI’s newest frontier model. Its central claim is not simply higher benchmark scores. The important change is its ability to complete multistep work while using a computer, checking results, and staying within the assigned task.

Computer use moves beyond chat

Astra can operate software through the screen. OpenAI says it can fill online forms, update CRM records, organise calendars, research online, and prepare summaries inside email or document tools.

It can also analyse data, make charts, build websites, and run frontend quality checks. This makes it useful where work requires several tools, rather than a single prompt and answer.

On OpenAI’s OSWorld 2.0 evaluation, Astra scored 72.6%. The company reported that it completed simulated computer-use tasks in about 40 minutes each, compared with about 75 minutes for GPT-5.6 Sol.

That does not mean every desktop task can run without supervision. Login steps, payments, legal decisions, sensitive data, and unclear instructions still need human review.

The CRM Behind Every Win

Attio is the agentic CRM that runs the work behind every win.

With agents and automations that build pipeline, chase signals, and move deals forward, Attio orchestrates your revenue work around the clock.

Loved by high-growth startups like Granola, Modal, and Wispr Flow, Attio amplifies what your team can achieve.

Better work inside existing documents

Professional work often starts with a half-finished spreadsheet, a company template, old documents, and scattered notes. Astra is trained to work with that reality.

OpenAI says it can create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and analyses while following an existing template and matching a writing or visual style. It is also designed to select relevant context instead of repeating everything it has read.

For a business team, that could mean turning research into a formatted briefing. For a journalist, it could mean sorting source material, identifying missing verification, and preparing a structured draft. For an analyst, it could mean moving from raw data to charts and a working report.

The final output should still be checked. Good formatting does not prove that every fact, formula, or conclusion is correct.

Coding with longer working memory

Software projects often fail when an AI loses earlier details. A bug fix may depend on a test result from hours ago, or on a decision buried in a long conversation.

Astra introduces a new Codex feature that keeps notes across context windows. Earlier context remains searchable, allowing the model to retrieve prior requirements, test outcomes, and tool outputs during long coding sessions.

This is useful for debugging, repository-wide changes, database migrations, and projects where work cannot fit inside one conversation window.

OpenAI reports a 57.9% score on Terminal-Bench 4.0, compared with 37.3% for GPT-5.6 Sol. Benchmark results matter, but real code still needs tests, security review, and human ownership before production release.

Scientific and mathematical work

Astra combines reasoning with computer use for scientific workflows. OpenAI says it can inspect specialised software, analyse data, explore results, and help researchers decide what to investigate next.

The company reports strong results in mathematics, health, life sciences, and chemistry evaluations. It also says Astra contributed to new mathematical results involving prime-number gaps.

This does not make AI an independent scientific authority. Research findings need replication, peer review, domain expertise, and clear records of how results were produced. Astra can shorten parts of the research process. It cannot replace the standards that make research trustworthy.

Cybersecurity capability needs tighter control

Astra’s cybersecurity capability is one of its most serious features. OpenAI says it meets the “Critical” cybersecurity threshold in its Preparedness Framework.

The model can assist defensive work such as secure code review and patching. OpenAI also reports that, without production safeguards, it performed strongly in evaluations involving known and recent vulnerabilities.

Because of this risk, the released version refuses advanced offensive tasks, including requests to create proof-of-concept exploits for vulnerabilities. OpenAI says additional monitoring and review systems can pause or stop risky actions.

This is the correct lens for reading capability claims. A stronger model creates value for defenders, researchers, developers, and businesses. It also raises the cost of weak security practices.

The practical change

GPT-6 Astra is less about having better conversations. It is about delegating bounded work.

A person may ask it to research a topic, organise the evidence, write a report in an existing format, build a supporting webpage, test that page, and explain what still needs review. That is a different kind of AI use from asking for a paragraph or a code snippet.

The limit remains the same: give it a clear task, define what it may access, and review important outcomes. The model may do more of the work. Responsibility does not move with it.

AI made PMs faster. Multiplayer mode is still broken.

A PM can summarize research, draft a PRD, and mock up a prototype before lunch. The hard part starts when the team has to decide what actually gets built.

Jira Product Discovery gives product teams one place to capture insights, prioritize ideas with consistent frameworks, and build living roadmaps stakeholders can rally around.

And because it’s connected to Jira, the context behind every decision stays with the work—so developers and their agents know not just what to build, but why.

AI helps PMs move faster. Jira Product Discovery helps the whole team build with confidence.
