Recent clinical AI studies test more than whether a model can name a possible diagnosis. They examine where assistance appears in a clinician's workflow, what information is available, and how performance is measured. The results suggest that workflow design can change measured accuracy, while leaving patient-care outcomes unanswered.

A 2026 randomized trial involved 70 clinicians completing clinical vignettes. One workflow showed the AI's assessment before the clinician's, while another presented it after an independent assessment. The paper reported diagnostic accuracy of 85 percent and 82 percent for the two assisted workflows, compared with 75 percent using conventional resources.
The AI system alone scored 90 percent on the study's cases. That figure does not mean it could replace a clinician. The researchers evaluated a custom collaborative system and measured responses to short, structured cases. Participants were clinicians, but the assessments were vignettes rather than live consultations with patients.
The order of assistance matters because it can shape how people reason. An AI-first design may give a clinician an initial framing. A second-opinion design may instead expose differences after the clinician has formed a view. In the trial, both assisted approaches performed similarly, and neither order had a statistically significant advantage.

A separate 2026 randomized simulation studied a real-time voice assistant in virtual primary-care consultations. Thirteen physicians handled 260 simulated cases. The system improved adjusted top-three diagnostic accuracy from 62.3 percent to 74.6 percent against a resource-restricted comparator. That is a 12.3 percentage-point difference within this simulation, not a measured improvement in patient outcomes.
The simulation also exposed trade-offs. Average consultation time rose 10.7 percent with assistance. In scenarios containing an incorrect AI suggestion, physicians sometimes agreed with it more often when assistance was present. That difference was not statistically conclusive, so it signals a safety question for further study rather than proof of harmful reliance.
The two experiments answer related but different questions. One tests how a clinician and model might combine diagnostic reasoning. The other tests live voice interaction under simulated conditions. Neither establishes effects on missed diagnoses, treatment decisions, health outcomes, or the workload of ordinary clinics.
This difference between benchmark accuracy and clinical benefit is central. A correct answer among several candidates may help a clinician consider alternatives. It may still be too late, poorly explained, or difficult to fit into a time-limited appointment. A system can also produce confident suggestions that require checking against records, examination findings, and patient context.
The World Health Organization's guidance says broad capability claims for large multimodal models remain unproven. Processing several kinds of input does not establish usefulness across many tasks. Its governance guidance also emphasizes risks and oversight in health settings. That framework supports evaluating the complete process, including data handling, accountability, clinician control, and access across different care environments.
Stronger evidence would follow clinicians in real care, include diverse sites and patient groups, and measure diagnostic errors as well as time and downstream decisions. Researchers would need to report when clinicians accept, reject, or correct suggestions. They would also need to compare the tool with realistic alternatives, not only with a condition deliberately lacking aids.
For now, the evidence supports a careful conclusion. Controlled studies show that some AI-assisted workflows can raise scores on defined diagnostic tasks. They do not establish that routine deployment improves care or that every clinical setting will benefit. In this regular AI research check-in, workflow and safety measures deserve the same attention as accuracy.
It's time to set up your holiday streaming campaign
Are you ready to reach holiday shoppers on CTV? For many streamers, the season is already underway.
Last year, according to Roku internal data, holiday content searches on Roku saw an 86% increase during October. And in November, those searches rise an average of 39% weekly. This surging holiday spirit is mirrored by consumer activity, as about half of Roku streamers shopped Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in 2025.
Meeting those shoppers is easier than you might think. Begin with the seasonal outcome you hope to drive: awareness, online sales, leads, store visits, or another measurable goal. From there, define your audience, upload your creative, set the budget and campaign dates, and establish measurement before launching. You can even create a shoppable ad unit that lets streamers buy with a click of their remote.
Our holiday playbook offers a month-by-month guide to reaching shoppers during this all-important time of year.
