You reach for your phone to answer a call, capture something, or understand a sign. AI smart glasses move some of those actions into the frames you wear.

The appeal is practical. You can ask a question while holding something, or record your view without raising a phone. But the experience depends on which glasses you choose.

Smart glasses describe several different products. Some provide audio. Others add cameras and visual AI. A smaller group includes a display inside the lens. Those differences matter more than the AI label.

Audio glasses place speakers and microphones in the frame. They can support calls and music, but audio hardware alone cannot interpret your surroundings.

Camera-equipped AI glasses add another input. You can ask about something in front of you, where the model and service support visual questions. Ordinary Ray-Ban Meta glasses deliver responses through audio rather than an in-lens screen.

Meta Ray-Ban Display is a separate product. Its small screen can show messages, directions, and AI responses. Buying camera glasses does not automatically give you that display experience.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 supports hands-free photos and 3K video capture. Meta rates its battery for up to eight hours of typical use. That is a manufacturer estimate, not eight hours of continuous filming. Meta’s Gen 2 announcement explains the specifications.

Meta Ray-Ban Display has a different rating: up to six hours of mixed use. Its charging case brings the stated total to 30 hours. Case capacity should never be confused with uninterrupted wearing time. These figures come from Meta’s Display announcement.

These examples show why a broad battery range can mislead. Compare the exact generation, the advertised activity, and whether the number includes case charging.

The useful change is access. A camera near your eyes can provide context without requiring you to position a phone first. Meta documents visual questions, voice controls, calls, and translation among its supported functions. Its product guide describes how these features work.

Translation still needs careful checking. Supported languages and features can differ between models and markets. Confirm the exact language pair you need before treating the glasses as a travel tool. Meta’s translation support page provides model-specific guidance.

Accessibility offers another concrete use. Be My Eyes lets supported Meta glasses connect users with a sighted volunteer through the camera. This is human assistance through wearable hardware. Availability depends on country and language support. Be My Eyes explains the service.

Hands-free use still involves a wider system. Ray-Ban’s setup requirements include a compatible smartphone, the Meta AI app, internet access, and a Meta account. Check those requirements alongside the frame itself. Ray-Ban’s FAQ covers setup and support.

A camera worn on your face also changes the recording situation. Meta provides a visible capture indicator and privacy controls. Ask before recording people in private settings, and review how your captures and AI interactions are handled. Meta’s privacy guide explains the available controls.

My assessment is that these glasses are easiest to evaluate through one repeated task. That might be taking short clips, handling calls, or accessing supported translation. Try that task with your own phone, language, and surroundings.

The purchase starts to make sense when the glasses remove a recurring inconvenience. A longer feature list cannot tell you whether you will want them on your face tomorrow.
